so your saying only people with active nod's points of views count?

swinburn hockey team have a commitee of 3, how many members do they have ? 60

so you set up your nod your self, thats good, but theres alot of people who want a committe @ the next meet we can have a vote and that will fix teh matter, its only fair isnt it?

I don't get why all that is needed though , infact I personally am against it for fear it may infact bring too many reistrictions and a corrupt system of power for wireless.org.au.

I know what it's like to admin servers, supply bandwidth, do things for people without being paid in dollars, but if you don't get it by now, that's what being a nerd or hacker or network admin is all about! the problem is you can't stop working! it's that drive that has brought everyone here. To help share knowledge.

It only takes a couple hours to setup and activate a node, if you want to create a members area where you need to signup and hand over all your details to the melbwireless database and appoint chairmans, presidents, whatever, it sounds more like turning into a little democratic establishment. *looks towards telstra*

I have an active node in Paco south, theres a guy a few blocks away with a node, my friends in brunswick are building a node. How many of the 300 so people on the list even have Active nodes yet? Just helping my friends setup nodes, then have them help someone else is going to build more wireless networks than having to signup to become a member of a network and follow all it's procedures.

Tyson,Whlist I've not been involved in this wireless group for long, and have yetto make it to a meeting, it has been obvious that someone somewhere wasgoing some organising. Thank you. What we very much need to do is to getthis on to a more formal footing. My suggestions of what we need to acheivein the short term are:* An elected committee comprising a President / Chairman, a Secretary, and aTreasurer. More would be welcome, but that would be the minimum to carry outthe 3 required roles.* We also need a formal contact point. That means a name (like thesecretary), address (snail mail) and other contact info if possible* A club membership list, which implys someone to run it, and a formalmembership application process (ie each member must provide a name andaddress etc.) so we can define WHO the group is.Down the track we MIGHT want to:* organise subcommittees who have a special fun
ction such as organising IPaddressing.* get a bank account* associate our group with other similar groups or have geographiclyorganised chapters - Geelong springs to mind* incorporate as a non profit organization (which protects all members invarious ways)* arrange public liability insurance* lots of other stuff.........I also agree with a number of comments about "getting on with it" and Idon't encourage excessive organisational bull. BUT some is necessary.I'd also like to put forward Tyson Clugg as a nominee to the committeeposition of President / Chairman.rgds,BrycePS I have no problem with the committee having regular meetings away fromclub meetings to organise whatever, but I'd suggest that all members benotified via this list, just in case they wish to attend.-----Original Message-----From: Tyson.C

br>"committee".This "group" typically communicates off list. This "group" is formed of people that have been constructive andcommunicative at the meetings, that is people who have approached myself andothers and been pro-active in getting things done. The pro-active part is especially relevant. Activities carried out include:* Running the current server - which includes web pages, mailing lists, nodemaps, etc.* Building the new server, to cope with the exponential growth experiencedby the group.* Sourcing bandwidth and hardware to run the servers.* Finding a suitable venue for our monthly meeting.* Communicating with external entities, such as the press, government andothers.* Running the monthly meetings.* Documenting what we do, like the RFC.I have raised the issue of voting for a committee numerous times on thislist.Every time I raise the issue, I get flamed. The issue won't go away until we have
a committee. The group can't run itself, someone needs to organise things. Melb-Wirelessdoes not have a committee, yet the meetings still go ahead.I apologise for being human. I have my flaws like everyone else. I havebeen doing my best at helping Melb-Wireless rise to a level that we can allhopefully be proud of. I am not alone in my efforts. If you have ANY questions regarding how things have been happening, who hasbeen doing what, what is planned for the future, then all you need to do isASK. We WILL reply truthfully and honestly. Feel free to ask suchquestions openly on the list, feel free to request that they are answeredvia the list. We can make no guarantees that we can answer every question,as we are sure that there are plenty to ask, but we will try our best.If people feel that my services are not required, then I shall leave. Assimple as that.As a matter of fact, I'm tired of being flamed
.I hereby step down. I resign myself from doing anything that can beconsidered as helping the group. If you want me back, ask nicely. Until then, I'll be another one of thosefools asking "what can wireless do for me", rather than "what can I do forthe community with wireless".Regards,Tyson.__________________________________Tyson Cluggemail: Tyson.Clugg at csiro.auphone: +61 3 9887 0117 (Home)__________________________________PS: Extra monies collected at the last meeting (total monies collected was$99.50, hall cost was $50.00, extra monies are therefore $49.50) shall bebrought along to the next meeting, or forwarded to whoever decides to takeup organising the next meeting. We probably won't fit into the scout hallfor much longer, and the insurance on other venues is expensive. You willneed the cash.
I wish you good luck finding a venue, and the best of luckorganising the meetings. Perhaps I might even turn up at one.-----Original Message-----From: Clae [mailto:clae13 at yahoo.com]Sent: Saturday, March 16, 2002 8:39 PMTo: melbwireless at wireless.org.auSubject: [MLB-WIRELESS] Fwd: Committee MeetingI strongly object to this kind of thing being organised by privateemails, without going through the public list. I am not about tobecome part anyone's "committee by appointment".I therefore propose that the melbwireless community move at the nextmeeting to establish genuine democratic process, for example, aconstitution, formal incorporation, offices and decision-makingprocedures.I also propose that this "committee" has absolutely no recogniti
