What does it bring over kismet? (kismet can be run in the backpack too)

I did a quick look at it, but can't determine what detection method it uses.
(eg, send out beacons in hope for ap's to reply, or sniff passively
(requires kernelpatch), detecting all 802.11b stuff without beeing visible?
