It was probably me.  Certainly I remember posting a URL to the list with
some sane discussion on the topic.  Here it is again:

Personally I'm with Chip (#1) but I'm just one of those aging Unix
dinosaurs who subscribes to the principles of good engineering and prefers
to fix the root cause of problems rather than beating away at the
symptoms.  ;)

YMMV.  List admins, do what you will, but remember - you have been warned!
And no, I don't derive pleasure from "I told you so".
