Shock ! Horror !

That is *exactly* how the spectrum is rationed - it's called the market.

Until capitalism collapses under the weight of it's own contradictions it is the
way that scarce resources are allocated in an exchange economy.

Ericsson are not a carrier and are not competing with us for spectrum.

Ericsson are vendors of carrier grade wireless infrastructure and therefore have
an interest in the carrier-level commercialisation of activity in as much of the
spectrum as possible - including the currently license free sliver of the
spectrum in which 802.11b activity battles with other modes of use

It would be irresponsible of them to argue for anything other than the
introduction of licenses for the 2.4Ghz band in their submission (assuming
Barry's interpretation of their statements is correct). This would force those
using consumer grade equipment out of the band, increasing it's utility for the
delivery of commercial services by Ericsson's telco customer base.
