The "dry Copper pairs" in the article that the writer refers to Telstra
calls it a PAPL (permitted attachment Private Line) and were normally
used for alarm (back to base dedicated line monitoring) and some low end
private networks etc.. and is exactly how existing aust SDSL providers
deliver their product. You are limited to approx 2.3kms from the dslam
and speeds are 2.3 Mbps (at the dslam) through to 384k (or thererabouts
at the furthest points). Now don't think that you can just go out an do
it. You have to convince Telstra pretty hard to get a PAPL to your
home... And really wireless is much better as you do not have to worry
about Telstra and low line speeds.... (on distance)
