It would be good to continue promoting the progress of this.

OurNet - I have started engaging with academics to find research partners. I have contacted 8 so far, with 1 showing interest after they return from a trip to China. Again, this is a fairly open project, so the more people who want to help the better. Until then, I'll keep giving you updates in the hope that might stimulate interest.

ForestNet - Not too much as progressed on this. A new member of the StartupCloud space, Zoom Aerial, will help me out a lot though. Warwick runs a drone business with Casa licensing. He recommends a blimp if it's to be tethered and can go up to 400ft above ground, and no license is required if it's not for commercial purposes.

Geelong City Nodes - I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to pay for node installation. Perhaps we can standardise some costs? Maybe an hourly fee? Maybe running installations through an affiliated company? Also a carrier license is dirt cheap, Melbourne Wireless is an a good position where the NBN won't be coming to Geelong CBD for at least another 2 years, so many will be looking to wireless in the interim. Maybe a partnership with Geelong Community Telco?

See you there!

On 27 November 2014 at 12:23, Todd Hubers <todd.hubers@alivate.com.au> wrote:

Hi All,

Just a reminder that our first (or restored) Geelong meeting for Melbourne Wireless will be tonight. I hope to make a brief presentation about these:

OurNet - I have presented this previously in Melbourne, but much has changed since then. I would like to present the current concept design and discuss if we can find University researchers to further this.

ForestNet - A simple project to get internet deep into the Otways. I imagine using tree(s) at the top of a ridge which overlooks Lorne and a deep value. Installing a fixture once, which can be used on demand to hold the equipment. I would then invite people from Geelong/Melbourne to work from the forest. This is an enabler.

Geelong City Nodes - There is limited HFC in Geelong. I am very interested in increasing the density of nodes in Geelong for myself and others. I know of a couple of businesses who already have their own ad hoc solution, and I'm sure there are many others. I am prepared to pay for installation of a node on my roof.

Thanks.
