One of the features I've been playing with is a terrain profiler view that shows line of sight between two selected nodes, which by itself is rather cool - check out an example here:<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText> <a href="http://dev.melbournewireless.org.au/maps/compare?id_1=KBN&id_2=KBQ">http://dev.melbournewireless.org.au/maps/compare?id_1=KBN&id_2=KBQ</a><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText>Note that the profiler uses the data entered in node details to also represent the height above ground level that the antenna is installed. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText>What I discovered while testing out these functions is that some nodes have height above sea level entered for anytenna height instead of height above ground. The end result is that the profiler view is way inaccurate. Take this one for example:<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText> <span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-AU'><img border=0 width=491 height=250 id="Picture_x0020_1" src="cid:image001.png@01D0028A.79E3A990"></span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText>It has antenna height above ground level set to more than 400m which is such a tall mast that it could get a line right over the top of mount macedon from the plains on each side ;-D<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText>I won’t write here which nodes they are because I don’t want to single out one person when probably several others have made the same easy mistake ;-)<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText>In any case, in preparation to these features going live, it will be useful if folks take a look at their node definitions and just check that ‘altitude’ entered is above local terrain height rather than above sea level ;)<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText>Cheers!<br><br>Mike.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p></div></body></html>
