The inquiry, initiated by the Australian Democrats and the Opposition, is expected to be completed by February next year.

The Government unsuccessfully tried to broaden the inquiry to include scrutiny of a proposal to split up Telstra so one part could run the network and the other the services part of the company.</I> 

It also contains this interesting quote <I>"This inquiry is nothing but a political stunt and a waste of the Senate's time and Australian taxpayers' dollars," Senator Alston said in a statement.</I> Is broadband internet services a waste of the governments time and money? I think not.
