So if you set the AP to not broadcast the SSID and have Mac Address
Filtering how is a "hacker" meant to know there is even a AP there?

One would hardly call that security.  In fact, it's high on the list 
of "Claytons security measures".

MAC addresses can be spoofed, and the traffic is still sent in the 
clear.  Best to fix the underlying problem.  Make sure all drivers 
are up to date, and the firmware on all wireless devices as 
well.  Updates often fix issues like this.
