[MLB-WIRELESS] General Meetings - volunteers needed

First of all, thanks to all those who replied to me with feedback on the new
General Meeting ideas. I think we're on the right track here.

As for the scheduling of the BBQ, I'm requesting that we try out the early
start for the BBQ. If it doesn't work out we can put it later in the
evening on subsequent meetings.

The BBQ is important, but it's not the main reason that people come to the
meeting. If the BBQ is the "main feature" then Melbourne Wireless is in
trouble.

Rob - is this feasible? Is it possible to have the BBQ running by 7.15pm?

While the BBQ is running, during the arrivals phase of the meeting, we
should be running an introduction group for newbies. This group would be
run by a Committee Member or any willing, experienced Melbourne Wireless
member. It would simply be an introduction to the meeting, to Melbourne
Wireless and what we're about. It should also encourage attendees to ask
questions - technical or anything else.

This allows people to attend the intro group if they want to, or to
socialise with their friends and eat at the BBQ.

I'd like to put out a call for people to volunteer to run one of these
workshops at the General Meeting:

Intro / Newbies
Setting Up A Node
IP Addressing / Subnetting / Routing

These workshops should have a rough plan - and cover the same things at each
meeting, but should be responsive to the questions and queries of the
attendees on the night.

The workshops at the next meeting don't need to be anything special. If you
just say "this meeting is about topic X - any questions?" - that'll be a
good start.

Also, I'd like to put out a call for ideas about the main Presentation. If
you can approach a wireless hardware distributor or manufacturer or other
person with some interesting wireless expertise to speak at a Melbourne
Wireless meeting, please contact me. Either in this mailing list or
off-list if you prefer.

Cheers,

Dan
