Unchecking 'that box' on XP does nothing for the Roamabout client
unfortunately, When you try to add a configuration profile with the client
app it brings up the standard XP networking properties - there is no way
around this, check the readme.txt thats packaged with the client utility.
Solution; bend over and take it. - With the box checked and ignoring the
Roamabout client utility, you can happily(?) setup profiles using the
inbuilt XP utility.

Drivers can be an issue with XP also, Im currently using the Enterasys 7.44
drivers with (Enterasys) label, (theres also a driver listed as (Roamabout)
in the same package)
You have to manually install this driver as it is unsigned and XP will by
default 'Plug 'n Play' your card with Microsoft Roamabout drivers, This may
require you to manually delete the existing driver files, as mentioned
previously.
