MacOS X is not based on FreeBSD. It is based on the Mach microkernel, with
multiple subsystems/APIs. One of those is BSD. Mac OS X ships with parts of
the userland, including the compiler toolchain, from FreeBSD 4.4

In other words, FreeBSD drivers do not work in Mac OS X. They may, however,
provide a good basis for a port.
