IIRC, with 3 sat's locked on you can get your lat/long. With a 4th, you 
can get altitude as well. Newer GPS's will lock onto multiple sat's at 
once, decreasing tracking/lock on time.

GPS resolution is ~3 meters or so, iirc. I'm not sure how much accuracy 
depends on the amount of sat's you have locked on.
