Are on same ip range ie 192.168.1.1 and other is 192.168.1.2
Have wavelan_cs drivers set in wireless.opts
have essid the same on both machines
have key set same on both machines
have rate set to 11mbps on both machines
so the wireless.opts files look identical on both machines.
however they both come up with this error when I type iwconfig.

In iwconfig display both machines have essid it says ESSID:"non-specified
ssid !!"

they cannot ping each other.

However if add a windows laptop with a roamabout card in it the other 2
machines find the essid and all 3 can ping. turn off the laptop with
roamabout card in it the other 2 remain pinging. But if you reboot them
both and renter the settings you want in iwconfig same essid etc they dont
ping again.

I am sure it is just configuration can anyone help.

Seems strange that the 3rd card helps them work.

I have done this with 2 x machines running 7.1 and Compaq wl210 in them.
However I never used iwconfig I just changed my settings in wireless.opts
and made both machines the same. All worked fine.

But in 7.3 even if I set the settings in wireless.opts and in iwconfig they
still don't talk until I introduce the 3r comp. 3 comp = win2k LTop with
roamabout.
