IMHO, not everyone needs to be thinking huge at this point, sure, a 
metropolitan area network is the ultimate goal, but dozens upon dozens 
of local networks clusters will probably be the norm for a long time to 
come.  These clusters will grow and grow as new nodes join, and 
eventually link with other clusters, but there will never *just* be one 
network, as there will always be clusters of nodes somewhere else 
waiting for the day when a link to someone new can link into another 
cluster, or even the main cluster. So you don't always need LOS to the 
city to advance the goal of melbwireless, the network will grow 
exponentially, every person you link to can link to others you can't, 
and so on and so on...
