If you have two interfaces you'll need an IP for the subnet and another for
the broadcast address.
So the minimum you need is 4, if you are just testing, apply for a block
you plan to eventually use, or apply for a /28 between you and the guy down
the road, or don't bother, if its just a test then you won't be on the
eventual mesh thus compatibility doesn't matter.

eg

10.10.48.32/30
IP Mask
10.10.48.32 255.255.255.252 Subnet Address
10.10.48.33 255.255.255.252
10.10.48.34 255.255.255.252
10.10.48.35 255.255.255.252 Broadcast Address

the next set of numbers you can have is
10.10.48.32/29

10.10.48.32 255.255.255.248 Subnet Address
10.10.48.33 255.255.255.248
10.10.48.34 255.255.255.248
10.10.48.35 255.255.255.248
10.10.48.36 255.255.255.248
10.10.48.37 255.255.255.248
10.10.48.38 255.255.255.248
10.10.48.39 255.255.255.248 Broadcast Address
