Yes but Unwired now need to service a debt of $100m +.  Don't get me wrong, right decision at the time with bad bad consequences in
the current market, that and they chose the wrong financial partners with mac bank not freeing up the next tranche of funding until
they sign up Telstra or Optus in an outsourcing deal that they'll only sign the day hell freezes over.

The Australian Wireless space is useless for carriers, you can never
offer QoS services on a commercially provided link using public space.
Nothing is going to guarantee the carrier any bandwidth to QoS in the
first place.

I do know of 1 Wireless IP-Tel/Fax/Data provider within Australia, but
they decided to purchase Spectrum space rather than compete with users
of the Public Space. They also signed an agreement with Telstra to cover
capital cities, so I'm guessing they are using all Telstra Exchange
features.

IP-Tel is not cheap, if you want a decent solution... There is a lot
more to it than shonky software running on a PC using the internet.

Sure Tom, but you try and go find a carrier interested in offering you a
voice service with packet buffering and QOS parameters. If you've ever
tried to use your cisco softphone to dial into your work pabx from a
commercial wlan access point you'll know what I mean.

One of the companies I consult for already has the capabilities to
provide a softswitch to provide dial tone less voice calls along with a
host of conference call setup and Unified Messaging features we also
have the capability to provide video based dial and conference
capability BUT not a single commercial Wlan provider in Australia has
taken up the offer for a trial server.

The news here is not that it is possible but a wisp is providing the
service.

Not hard to do, there are many iPAQ applications which will do VoIP.

We recently did a demo of wireless IP Tel, where the iPAQ had an
extension number and could make/receive calls via Cisco Wireless
networking gear and the Cisco IP Tel solution.
