Those interested in Linux wireless networking might be interested in
going to the first talk on setting up a wireless sound system. Might be
good!

Hi everyone,

The next meeting of the Linux Users of Victoria will be held on
Tuesday the 6th of August. Please note that due to an earlier
booking, the meeting will be 30 minutes later than usual.

This Month we have

First Talk:
"A Networked Loudspeaker" by Jan Newmarch

Home networking is arriving slowly. This talk reports on
a project to stream audio around the house using wireless
networking. The audio stream is received by a loudspeaker
running embedded Linux with a power amplifier

Main Presentation:
"A Cook's Tour of KDE 3" By Tim Norman

The K Desktop Environment version 3.0 (aka KDE 3) is the latest major
release of one of the largest Free Software projects in the world. KDE
aims to provide an integrated, usable desktop environment for Unix
systems, and runs on several platforms, including Linux, the BSDs and
even Mac OS X.

This talk will cover all the new features of KDE 3, as well as providing
a guide to everything that makes KDE what it is. We take a 'hands on'
look at KDE 3, from the user's point of view, rather than the
programmer's. We will look at KDE programs such as Kicker, Konqueror,
Koffice, KMail, Kate and Noatun, as well as the in-depth configuration
system and funky cool features that are contained in KDE 3.

And if you're really lucky, we might even get to look at Liquid, the
coolest KDE theme ever. (jason - Yes , you're lucky)

When:
        Tuesday 6th August
        7:00 pm - 7:30 pm pre-meeting refreshments
        7:30 pm - 9:30 pm presentations

Please note that access from outside into the building is not a
        available after 8pm.

Where:
        Telstra Auditorium
level 1, 242 Exhibition St, Melbourne
on the corner of Lonsdale St.
Enter off Exhibition St between the Chemist and the Newsagents

All welcome.

LUV will also have a selection of Linux merchandise on sale, including
PC badges, LUV T-shirts, and /dev/mugs. All profits from sales will
go to LUV.

After the meeting, you can join us for pizza.
