the nature of the network is fragmented,.. before investing in equipment, you're better off discussing potentials pathways for connectivity with neighbours. radio equipment can get expensive and you dont want to squander your precious dollar bills on redundant equipment.<br>
<br>that said for a one way connection i'd consider $200-250<br><br>for oneway connection you usually need:<br><br>1 ap/router $50-150 (the wrt compatible routers are the ones we use, current models are : the asus wl-550ge, wl-500gp, buffalo (see previous mail-list posts), linksys wrt54gl)<br>
<br>a high powered directional antenna $150-<br><br>weatherproof box ($50-80<br><br>20-30m cat5 (usually) from your roof to your house ($20<br><br>pigtails and high quality radio cable $40.<br><br>if you contact your melbwireless neighbours they may be able to arrange some kind of meet up, otherwise wait till the next meeting which is usually on the 11th of every month if i remember correctly; there you can talk to most of the 'active' members.<br>
