Just which firmware 8.10 are you updating them to? Put one of those RoamAbouts into a Linux box, and you'll probably see it report 6.04 firmware. Note that the Orinoco cards have three firmwares - primary, secondary, and tertiary. The tertiary firmware is loaded into volotile memory in the card each time the windows drivers are loaded, and is lost when the card loses power. The RoamAbout 7.44 Windows drivers use 8.10 tertiary firmware. All the RoamAbouts that I've seen only have 6.04 secondary firmware, and it's the secondary firmware that is used under Linux. I've found the 6.04 secondary firmware doesn't work very well under Linux, while the 6.06 firmware (available from Enterasys' website) works much better.
