Hi Andrew and all,
The server I am looking at is as follows:
• Dual (2) Xeon 3.2GHz Processors with 1MB Cache
• 4GB PC-2100R ECC Memory
• 2x 36.4GB Ultra3 15K Hot Pluggable Hard Drives
• 24x Speed CD-ROM Drive
• 1.44MB Floppy Drive
• HP NC7170 Dual-Port PCI-X Gigabit Server Adapter
• Single Hot Pluggable Power Supply
• No Rack Mount Rails
It's a HP Proliant DL360 G3 1RU system.
Putting 72Gb HDDs in this machine would be better - however at the moment there is about 20Gb used on that system - so 36Gb HDDs will do for the foreseeable future.
I have turned down quite a few offers of hardware in the past - as all have been with strings attached - ie "I'll give you this for a shell account I can download from" or "I'll give you this if you give me root access to it" etc - which I am certainly not interested in.
At this point in time I am also not very interested in moving the system to a VM. These offers have come and gone in the past and as I have found out the hard way that offers can vary with great frequency. I have a concrete deal with where the server is currently collocated and I would much rather a physical box at a secure location that nobody can change.
I'm not very familiar with IBM equipment, but if they are along the lines of what is above, please contact me off list to see what we can figure out.
