(a) Lane splitting already is illegal in Victoria;  "no passing on the 
left" laws have been in force for a few years now. This "petition" 
relates to making laws relating to road use uniformally applied 
throughout .au to remove ambiguity between the states' and territorys' 
road rules.
(b) I think your seeing many cars with broken mirrors blah blah blah is 
a bit of a sweeping generalisation. I could bet that I've seen - in real 
life - many more motorcyclists rear-ended in heavy traffic than what you 
believe to be motorcycle-damaged mirrors. The definition of "f#$^wit" is 
all relative.
