You are limited by the resistance of the cable.

A better idea is to use a higher voltage, say 12volt, and then regulate 
it down to the required
voltage at the AP's position.

Still, several 10's of meters, maybe a 100m or so maybe acheivable this way.

The actual PoE (Power over Ethernet) spec allows for 48v @ 500mA, not 
sure of the cable run.
