The WRT54G is probably a good start. As you work out what you want to do 
with your Node (links etc.) other AP's can be added (for example: as in the 
WMRouter project )

Funny thing the WAP54G is less functional than the WRT54G but seems to be 
more expensive. There is no problem using the Routing capability in the 
WRT54G to effectively isolate (firewall) your home system from there 
wireless node you are creating.
