Two useful things I've found recently:

is an up-to-date survey of the state of the art of Linux and Wireless (what's 
supported, what's not, how well, etc).

The Auditor Live CD is a Knoppix based bootable Linux CD for security folks 
that includes good Wireless support (hostap for Prism, correctly patched 
Orinoco drivers, Kismet, gKismet, etc) and (for me) worked out of the box.
