Sorry all about that last message -- so that's what the little envelope
with the arrow does!
What I was going to say is that I have dealt with these devices in the
past (I have a similar model on my home LAN currently) and found them to
be a little tempramental with regards to their fault detection settings
-- i.e. if a network device is sending too much data it shuts down the
port. Be very careful when using this, I reccommend Low Sensitivity or
Never shut down a port. They once used one of these in a library I
frequent and it was amusing to see more and more machines with the out
of order sign placed upon them every time I went in. Basically the
devices have become a little antiquitated and what is now considered to
be enough data/collisions to justify the shutting down of a port was
bordering on incomprehensible back when they were designed.
If you don't need the vast amounts of ports provided by the device, as
stated previously by Winder, you'd probably be better off going for
something smaller and/or faster, though beware of the cheap and nasty
10/100 switches - some are just pure crap.
Sorry again,
Tom Fifield
