It looks like the OpenWRT project has finally borne some user-friendly
fruit.
Have a look at

This is a working, online mock-up of the Friefunk.Firmware
web-interface.
FF is based on OpenWRT and has been optimised for use on the German
Friefunk Community Wireless Network. It uses the OLSR routing protocol,
which isn't really useable on the Melbourne Wireless Network. Still,
this firmware serves as a real-life, working example of what the WRT54G
is capable of. If it were modified to run OSPF instead of OLSR it could
be quite handy in our neck of the woods...
