915 MHz is available as an unlicenced band in Aus.  I think the band is
something like 915 MHz to 928 MHz (anyone else know the exact limits?).  The
bottom end is adjacent to GSM phone frequencies.

If you buy such converters, better make sure they're type approved,
otherwise things might get expensive if it's not, and you're found to be
upsetting the local mobile phone service... :-)

Oh, I do notice one slight detail that will derail any attempt to use 915
MHz...  802.11b signals are 22 MHz wide.  The available band at 900 MHz is
only 13 MHz wide, so there's no way 802.11b emissions can be legally used
there in Aus...  (again, you don't want to start getting into mobile
phones...  Good way to wind up with a BIG fine!!!).

IOW, the converter would not only have to convert the frequency, but also
the modulation format (and lower the bitrate) to keep the emission legal.
