I thought Cisco cards where also compatible with HostAP??
Another option may be to use FreeBSD with prism and non-prism cards. (www.freebsd.org) Some functions from HostAP are native to the FreeBSD kernel. So setting up an AP in FreeBSD is not very trivial.
