This can all be discussed when there's some progress with GHO and we're
looking at locking it down.
I'm sure there are A LOT of people in bad positions. But if one person is
allowed to connect to get around a tree to connect to someone 300m away,
you really have to let everyone else in a similar position do the same
thing.
Soon the AP's useless because it's so slow, and you might as well switch
the thing off and not have it at all.
I realise it's tempting to use such a prime location for a public AP, but
in the long term, a backbone router node will be far more beneficial.
I've spent a lot of money too on wireless gear and it can be very
frustrating when things don't work out. The speed at which the network is
growing is a constant pain in the butt for me. I'm very envious of the
WAFreenet.*cough*
Have you thought of trying a passive repeater positioned away from the
problem trees so that your link goes in more of a V shape? Over 300m I'm
sure this has a very good chance of working.
