debian.  it can be as small or as large as you want it to be.  i tend to
build routers by installing just the base system, then apt-get
installing the handful of extra packages i need - dselect is too much of
a pain to run when there are over 11000 packages to choose from.


alternatively, i've never used it (and am never likely to use it) but
i've heard people say good things about smoothwall if you don't need a
full-featured linux distribution.  dunno if it supports wireless cards,
though (actually, any linux dist. will, depending on how much work
you're prepared to put in to compile and install the software).
