Yes, I know this is a very old thread :)

I'm off for a fishing trip next weekend which means around 8 hours travelling in the car! (tell me about it). I decided I would take my laptop to watch DVDs/VCDs etc on the way. I would like something that will give me continuous power through the car ciggi input to my lappy.

Going through the junk mail in the letter box today, Dick Smith has a Digitor Inverter 12v-240v 300w for $128.

Could also someone give me a quick run down on power laptops may use. My particular Dell power supply down below says
100-240V~1.5A 70W CONT.

Above that line it has in a white box
50-60Hz	20V -~
AC 100V	3.5A
120VA

I am not quite sure which one I should be looking at and comparing to the inverter specs. I assumed I would use the first one I mentioned. Which would mean the JayCar unit (link below in Andrws email) would be useless for my needs because it only supports 230V and 60W CONT power supply. Am I right in saying this?

Just wondering has anyone purchased an Inverter is AUS? If so would you mind telling me what brand/model and your thoughts about it. Can they plug into a cig input in a car or do they have to be wired to the battery? Any help would be appreciated.

I also found some additional links for inverters. The first link look good to me.

$29.95US + $30US shipping = $53.84AU + $53.93AU shipping = $107.77 and still
has american plug

same thing at jaycar is $79.95AU or less if you buy more and you get an
australian plug.
