Ditto. I'm well connected here - I have a now unused multicore running
back to Telstra, and a bunch of Optus lines (more coming when they
finally install our 8-line MAU)..

I'd be more than willing to host a tunnel running through a link (xDSL?)
if any ISP(s) are willing to sponsor it, even if it's only to tunnel to
the other side of the city (which would be better than interstate at
this stage, IMHO).

If anyone's really interested in simply tying existing hotspots together
cheaply I could probably get another phone line installed for a PSTN
link.

IMHO, tunnels across Melbourne will be necessary even if the mesh can
carry traffic all that way - otherwise there'd be too many bottlenecks
etc. I spoke to Paul Van Den Bergen the other day and he called it
'small world theory'.
