[MLB-WIRELESS] Dlink 713's as routers, not NAT devices...

MessageI have a static route set on each 713 pointing to the IP of the other 713...

I'm not sure if you can disable or work-around the NAT, hence my post :)

  How's your routing look?

  the 713's should each have a route for the remote 10.1.x.x subnet pointing at the other 713.

  If you connect a router to the internet, your ISP will usually provide a next hop route transparently. In your case you will want to install that next hop route manually in each 713 (i dont know how to do this on a D-link 713, ive never used them)

  eg->

  713 #1
  ip route 10.1.2.0 255.255.255.0 via 192.168.0.2

  713 #2
  ip route 10.1.1.0 255.255.255.0 via 192.168.0.1

  of course youll also want to disable NAT etc...

  ps. You could also use a default route in each of the 713's and point them to the WAN interface of the other 713 in a similar fashion as above

  Cheers,

    ok, a quick rundown on what I'm trying to get working.... The wifi link consists of 2 x Dlink 900AP+'s in bridge mode, each house has a Dlink 713 for print server, DHCP, and local wifi access...

    The idea is to go LAN -> 713 -> 900AP+ bridge -> 713 -> LAN....

    now hopefully, I can use the WAN port on the dlink 713's, and have a subnet of 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.252 between them... I'm assuming that the 900AP+'s in bridge mode, will just pass over whatever comes into the ethernet port to the other end....

    So on an IP level, we have:

    LAN 10.1.1.x ->
    713 WAN port (192.168.0.1/255.255.255.252) ->
    900AP+ bridge ->
    713 WAN port (192.168.0.2/255.255.255.252) ->
    LAN 10.1.2.x

    now my question is this.... can I use the WAN port on the 713 to be used as a router, and not enable NAT over that port???

    From tests, we're not able to go 713 -> 713 - and I'm trying to figure out why....
