There's an excellent O'Reilly book called "Building Wireless Community
Networks" [0] by Rob Flickenger (the man behind NoCatAuth) which is now in
it's second edition[1] which talks about it. There's also the website itself
[2] which includes a Wiki section [3] which has documentation for both
NoCatAuth and the work on it successor, NoCatSplash (which isn't yet as
advanced as NoCatAuth, but is written in C rather than Perl to use less
resources).

[1] - Got the first edition, which is great, no idea what's been added for the
2nd, but it should be worth getting hold off..
