38400 ...... actually I did read about a way of getting better speeds over
PSTN, but getting the gear wouldn't be easy these days. Hayes Optima modems
reportedly had the ability for much higher level of data compression ...
required special serial cards (16550 wasn't sufficient) & 'back to back'
