i believe that Proxim Symphony gear is 802.11 compatible, but not
802.11b compatible. the "b" part is very significant.
802.11 describes three possible transmission standards: FHSS
(Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum), DSSS (Direct Sequence Spread
Spectrum) and an infrared (ie, not radio) standard.
802.11b extends the DSSS standard from 2Mbps, to include 5.5 and 11
Mbps. you might also be aware of 802.11a and 802.11g which define
more transmission standards.
your Symphony cards will interoperate with other 802.11 FHSS cards
(Breeze, RangeLAN/IEEE, etc), but not with 802.11 DSSS or 802.11b
cards.
hope this helps,
d
