Despite numerous warnings and reports highlighting the threat of wireless
hacking or 'wardriving', many 802.11b (Wi-Fi) wireless local area networks
(WLANs) remain extremely vulnerable. To counter this threat consultancy firm
KPMG has developed a honeypot wireless LAN to monitor the activities of
hackers and gauge the true threat they pose to corporate and government
networks. The technology looks and acts like a wireless access point to a
corporate network, but has no other network connections. If the wireless
honeypot is successful in deceiving wardrivers, KPMG plans to market the
technology "as a security tool for corporate Wi-Fi users."
