[MLB-WIRELESS] How important is line of sight?

Without line of sight am I screwed?

I have been considering joining two lans to share net access.  It's only
about 400 meters as the crow flies but standing on my roof I can't make
out the other (it's all so different up there).  More than likely
there's a clump of trees in way though.  I'll stick some lights up soon
to confirm this.  Will using a high gain antenna (galaxy dish, etc,
whatever's on the cheap) punch through the trees for the short distance?
