Title: Estimating Elevation in Victoria via Survey Marks (General)

Please see my page http://www.firstpr.com.au/geog/elevation/ for details of how to find survey marks and in most cases their elevation via the Net for free. When combined with some eyeballing and walking around the locations now I know about the survey marks, I should be able to estimate elevations to within a metre or two. I wanted to know elevations of my house and the destination, 10km away, and of a ridge which is 3.5km from my place, as well as of the edge of a plateau which the destination is a part of.

Without purchasing maps, in the four locations I tried, I was able to find survey marks which gave me a pretty good idea of elevation, possibly at least as good as would be gained from 10 metre interval countour maps.

Please let me know any suggestions, improvements to the techniques, links to other sites etc.
