A discone antenna is designed for consistent performance over a wide
bandwidth. It sacrifices good performance (ie gain) for bandwidth
(ie so that it has 0 dBi or better gain and a good SWR at all
frequencies in the operating range).
It wouldn't be a good choice for a wireless LAN, and further
there's no need for it because you don't need the broadband
nature.
