Hello dean,

Going to something like that wouldn't be from a commercial basis,
ie something I'm not deriving an income from...

So far to date I've sunk a lot of time, money and effort into getting
the community thing up and running, $195 in this case is out of the
question... (NB: $195 = 1x dwl520, ie another AP)

BP>> Dear Barry,

BP>> Local Government Summit

BP>> The Broadbanding of Local Communities

BP>> Novotel - Brighton Le Sands - Sydney

BP>> 12 December 2002

BP>> Over 50 representatives from local councils such as Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Townsville, Bendigo,
d> Newcastle, Snowy Mountains, Port Stephens, Lake Macquarie and Bathurst as
BP>> well as State-, Federal Government and industry representatives will gather in Sydney on Thursday (12 December) to attend a
d> local government summit on the broadbanding of local communities, an
BP>> event initiated and organised by Paul Budde.

BP>> The aim of the Summit is to empower local councils to take charge of building local knowledge based society on new broadband
d> networks. Awareness of the potential of broadband is increasing daily,
BP>> and cities, regions and communities are beginning to perceive the social and economic benefits that can be derived from this
d> technology. It is therefore of critical importance that cities and
BP>> regional authorities take charge of the development of their knowledge-based environments.

BP>> A proactive local government is a vital element in the development of broadband - one that is potentially capable of delivering
d> community benefits in education, healthcare, community services,
BP>> job creation and export.

BP>> At this Summit Paul will present the Broadband Agenda - a plan covering the development of broadband and the strategies that
d> should flow after it becomes established.

BP>> Worldwide, there are now over 1,000 community-driven broadband initiatives. In Australia there are, amongst others, projects in
d> Canberra, Perth, Bendigo, Mildura and Newcastle; furthermore, well
BP>> over 50 regional organisations have indicated their interest in regional projects.

BP>> This seminar will provide local organisations with a wealth of information on how to get started and there will be presentations
d> from representatives of some of the cities that are already on the
BP>> move.

BP>> The Local Government Summit is the third major broadband event organised by Paul Budde. In December 2001, he organised the
d> National Broadband Summit, which brought together all the major players
BP>> in the industry. He is also the initiator of UtiliTel - a project in which twelve of Australia's leading electricity utilities
d> are pursuing a nationwide investigation into the opportunities
BP>> associated with the broadband technology.

BP>> Representatives from leading local broadband projects will speak at the Summit:

BP>> a.. Kevan Penter, Manager Bright - Perth
BP>> b.. Bruce Winzar - City of Bendigo
BP>> c.. Phil Herrick, GM Southern Phone Co, Moruya (NSW)
BP>> d.. John Freeman, CEO Neigbourhood Cable - Mildura, Geelong, Ballarat
BP>> e.. Michael Delgigante, CEO TransAct - Canberra

BP>> Cost: Local council and regional representatives - $195 per person, Others - $295 (excl.GST)
