[MLB-WIRELESS] Innernorth gathering

Hey all,

Had an innernorth gathering today - had about 10 people show up, various
new faces, which was good. We've determined that there's a line of
people along Bell St, who should be able to connect up (maybe), and
generally lots of people in close proximity to each other. I think we
really need to get a big map and some polystyrene, because I'm loosing
track of who's where, but I think people are finding out who's nearest
them.

I had hoped we'd talk about kitset gear, but we never really got to it -
basically, people socialised and chatted, more than anything
particularly organised.

Status report for those who are interested - there's 37 members on the
innernorth mailing list, plus a few other people who aren't subscribed
but make it to the meetings. We seem to be within a week or two of
links going up - Tony said he'd setup a test link sometime RSN, Grant
and friends will have a directional (and an omni?) setup at the corner
of Bell and Gilbert that should reach others, Ian and I are within days
of getting links setup, I think - it's all coming together now, we
should have some fixed links to report shortly.

Gear present at meeting: One highly-modified galaxy/cantenna creation,
which looked very impressive (we took this up on the roof and discovered
two other AP's in range, which surprised me), one Eden small/quiet
mainboard with everything built-on, one other small PC I didn't catch
the name of, various laptops and pigtails and other antenna/lengths of
cable.

Overall, things are looking good - people seem to have or be very close
to having all their gear now, so I'm optimistic about getting links in
place over the next few weeks.

Various possible locations were suggested for the next meeting,
including sanbar's place (I believe he suggested it might be doable,
yeah?), the shop-front on Gilbert Rd where Grant and co are situated,
and down by merri creek next to Craig's place, all of which sound good
:) I expect next gathering will be in 3 or 4 weeks' time, and there
should be actual links in use to discuss by then :)

That's about it... Thanks to all who showed up today, it was a good
afternoon.
