Subject: [Perth Wireless] Cheap Wireless Gear @ simline
Haven't heard anything on this list for a while so I thought I'd throw
this out there for anyone who hasn't come across this vendor yet (Prolly
old hat to many of you)
www.simline.com.au have some cheap 22Mb/s 802.11 Dlink gear,
eg DWL- 520 PCI adapter - $180
DWL - 900 AP Access point - $300
Check it out fer yerself at
http://www.simline.com.au/Catalogue.asp?catid=117
While we're on the subject anyone know wher I can find any cheap PCI<->
PCMCIA adapters (<=$80) my mates can throw thier $77 Cabletron cards in ?
Also, I managed to get my Compaq WL-200 (prism2) up and running in *AP*
mode using the *wlan-ng* drivers with the *intersil AP firmware* under
linux. It's pretty hairy, but if anyone wants to do the same (I had too,
the crash-o-matic hostAP drivers kept crashing my box) drop me a line
and I'll point you in the right direction (Warning - it does involve
unofficial firmware upgrades that may fry your card).
Cheers Graeme (aka chomama)
PS: Yes I'm still alive, been on Hol's
PPS: As per usual there is still a big, fook-off antenna on my roof
beaming 802.11 to no-one. If your in Scarborough and looking to hook up
drop me an email.
