two more major plusses: 

- external antenna connection

- reported superior reception quality that prism2/2.5 chipset based cards.

downsides:

- hard to get the card into promiscuous mode (for sniffing) and rfmon mode 
(for 802.11 frames)

- hard/impossible to get to work in host-AP mode.
