[MLB-WIRELESS] USB over CAT5 versus coax

You are really going the hard route there... and expensive too.

PoE is the way to go. Why mix it up with USB?

My first PoE experiment has been running up a pole for a couple of
months now... http://kawasaki.kz/wireless/PoE.htm

Simple jumpers across the 4/5 & 7/8 pins on the RJ45 socket to the power
plug socket on the Compaq AP and its done.

I've also modded AP number 2... a different brand & voltage and it works
fine (although not used in anger yet).

Give PoE another look... mine is running over 30mt but it should be good
for close to the 100mt ethernet limit.

Andy.

This USB extender from Gefen allows USB to be carried over CAT5 up to
100m
which would enable a cheap USB AP to be roof-mounted and fed via cheap
CAT5
rather than awkward and expensive LMR400

http://www.gefen.com/products/extendit/new_kvm_usb_extenders_switches/us
b200/index.html

It isn't cheap at US$479 but is food for thought and should decline in
price
eventually.
