If you're desperate for an amp in order to say run a few antennas off the
one card (i assume you can do that) then there's often a few available on
ebay around the 500mW - 1W mark. I think they start around AUD$600. From
the US of course.

Modifying the card would amount to invalidating its type approval, and then
any amp you stick on that's not bidirection is hardly likely to be type
approved for the application.
We have to make do with what we have :)
