Umm, you're just touching on one of the aspects of the computer industry
that annoys me no end (lazy advertisers who wouldn't know a shift key if it
bit them on the bum?). What you said makes no sense, if you've studied any
sort of engineering, because of the way abbreviations are used (sometimes by
informal convention rather than formal ones).

If I was to translate what you said in what has been my experience, it would
read:

"It's not 11 millibits per second... it's 11 millibit which is 1.2
millibits per second...." Looks rather silly! :)

Firstly, the lower case 'm' stands for milli (1/1000), capital 'M' means
mega (1,000,000). This is an international SI prefix standard. A list of
common SI prefixes can be found in the ARRL Handbook and many engineering
and amateur radio test books.

It also has been a convention (I think more informal, but not sure) that
when dealing with data rates or capacity, that lower case 'b' generally
refers to 'bit', and uppercase 'B' means 'byte'.

Sorry, I just had to say something when I saw a "correction" which had the
wrong SI prefixes. ;-)

P.S. I can do a hundred times 11mb/sec with Morse Code sent by hand! ;-)
11 Mb/sec, now that's a decent speed - sounds like a real 802.11b speed...
:)
